Prior to joining Shield AI, Jim Carlson served for eleven years in the United States Marine Corps as an attack helicopter pilot, joint terminal attack controller, and weapons and tactics instructor. While in Afghanistan, he developed a combat iPad display for cockpit use, which replaced legacy paper maps across Marine aviation. Later, he served as the director of operations for the 1st Special Operations Training Group. He earned his JD and MBA from Stanford Law School and the Graduate School of Business, and his undergraduate degree in Philosophy from Stanford University.
